The title itself suggests that the story is filled with all the piquant elements that make a bold and funny theme. This witty sex-comedy is not a typical rip snorting Bollywood film filled with comedy, action and romance, but is a treatise on the politics of sexuality. ‘Mirch’ does have a frivolous focus on sex, passion and women’s sexuality, but it’s not close to vulgarity. From the first frame to the last, the director has taken lots of pain to deliver a clean crafted film. It’s a four story film set in two time periods, ancient and contemporary. Story-line The story sweeps around a struggling filmmaker Manav (Arunoday Singh), who finally gets an opportunity to read his script to a producer, Nitin (Sushant Singh), after his girlfriend (Shahani Goswami) arranges the meeting. Manav first narrates a story, set in the time period of ancient India. The first story which is inspired from Panchtantra, is about Maya (Raima Sen) who is married to Kashi (Rajpal Yadav). The story deals with how she gets caught red handed in bed with another man and yet manages to get off the hook wittily. Impressed with Manav’s script, Nitin asks him to come up with similar stories. Later, Manav narrates three stories in a contemporary setting which had a similar plot like the first one. The other three stories that Manav narrates has an ensemble cast which includes Konkana Sen Sharma, Raima Sen, Boman Irani, Ila Arun and Shreyas Talpade. Konkana Sen, who plays the wife of a suspicious husband (played by Prem Chopra), manages to escape from different situations after being seen with a lover. Bottom-line There is the subtle hint of good cinema interspersed with funny moments, but the film lacks verve. However, the director has made a promising effort.
